You Idiot

Kris ONG

Singapore|2018|HD|18’
In English with Eng sub

The night is young, and so are Darren and Matt. As they wander around the streets in Singapore at night, they sing and write a song together. Kris Ong’s second short film, You idiot, is a genuine and tender song celebrating friendship and dreams. Working with two non-actors who are personal friends of hers, Kris Ong explores the possibilities of collaboration in storytelling and filmmaking.

Sunday

Kris ONG

Singapore|2019|HD|13’
In English with Eng sub

Li Yan is a young woman with rashes. She takes care of her sick mother at home, while her sister’s boyfriend, whose skin is covered in tattoos, rests at home after an accident. As the story unfolds in the small living room, he soon gets under her skin. The encounter of two imperfect bodies ends up in an inevitable rupture of desire. Sunday carries off its idea with subtlety through sound – ventilator, alarm and of course, scratching.

Mary, Mary, So Contrary

Nelson YEO

Singapore|2019|HD|15’
In Mandarin, English with Eng & Chi sub

When The Lady Vanishes in Spring in a Small Town, Ma Li dreams of being Mary after marrying a stableman. Mary, Mary, So Contrary is a play of doubleness: Ma Li and Mary, East and West, truth and illusion, questioning the notion of free will and consciousness. In a stream of distorted and reshuffled images and computer-generated voiceover, we all take a leap into Ma Li’s train of thought that has no beginning and no end.

Côi

Anh LA

Vietnam|2019|HD|18’
In Vietnamese with Eng sub

Côi is a lonely boy drifting through life and death – he gets a job of pretending to be dead in a coffin shop, then another job to marry a recently-dead girl. His tragic life begins in a coffin as a living person and ends with a wedding with the dead. Shooting in 1:1 square aspect ratio, the film visually constricts and confines Côi to his own fate. Yet, Côi still climbs to the roof and slowly blows a horn of hope.
